Stay creekside at Wade’s Mill in our charming, rustic School Teacher’s Cabin. The cabin is only 10 minutes off Interstate 81/Exit 205, but the secluded, rural location is a world away.
The School Teacher’s Cabin sits in a grove of trees at the end of a private lane, bordered by Ott’s Creek and surrounded by woods and pasture. Originally built c. 1820-40 for the school teacher of a German-speaking community west of Lexington, the cabin was relocated to Wade’s Mill in 1992.
The living room, dining room and upstairs bedrooms (one with queen bed and one with twin beds) are the original early 19th century cabin. The fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom and creekside deck are “modern” additions. The cabin was freshly furnished and upgraded with central AC/heating, new appliances and and an updated bathroom in the summer of 2018. It features high speed fiber optic wifi and a Smart TV with YouTube TV and ability to log in to your streaming service subscriptions.
This rustic, rural gem, combining modern comforts with historic charm, was made available to the public for the first time in 2019. Enjoy easy access to all that the surrounding Shenandoah Valley offers while returning to the peace and quiet of your cozy creekside cabin in the evening.
Enjoy a drink on the deck or have your meal on the picnic table under the trees, with the babbling creek as a backdrop. You might even catch a glimpse of our resident great blue heron or kingfisher. After dark, the fireflies are magical in the summer and away from city lights, you’ll enjoy a bright moon and sky full of stars year round.
The Cabin accommodates a maximum of 4 guests (2 in a queen bed and 2 in twin beds). It is a non-smoking property. The Cabin does not accommodate pet guests at this time.
The Cabin rents for $229/night (plus 5.3% state and local sales tax and 10% county lodging tax) for a couple/two guests, with a required 2 night minimum stay. Additional guests (a maximum of 2) incur a $20/night per guest fee. Each booking also has a $75 cleaning fee.
